Brush Jars

Due to a glitch in physics, brush jars cannot be placed on their side. Attempting to place them in any other direction than face-up leads to them swinging back-and-forth in a pendulum motility until the jar is upright. This also happens to the reward painting that you may receive for completing Sheet the Castle.

  • PC Only This issues is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Permeable Walls and Terrain

In many places information technology is possible to walk through walls, fall through cracks in the flooring, or irretrievably lose items (particularly staffs) in these places. When the histrion is the i falling, they volition usually fall until reaching the bottom of the cell, at which point they will suddenly reappear in their previous position. In the case of items, NPCs, and sometimes the player yet, they will remain at the base of operations of the cell unable to render. The but sure set is to reload an before save.

If you're using a PC, you can as well effort using the console command tcl to remove all motility restrictions and get out of that location or take hold of the item that vicious through the crack. After you are on condom terrain again, employ tcl over again to restore normal movement. If you've lost an item, y'all may be able to create another copy of it using player.additem <Base ID> <Quantity>, however this may take unintended side-effects in some cases.

Graphical/Display Glitches

This department documents modest problems that primarily consist of items beingness displayed incorrectly. For game-breaking graphical bugs, please come across the Graphical Problems department of our Technical Support page.

Cleaved Candles

Xbox 360 photograph of some broken candles

Installing whatsoever of the 1.2.30 patches introduces a graphical glitch when displaying sure candlesticks. The candlesticks volition appear as large golden-yellow triangles containing a gray-black exclamation betoken (only function of the exclamation point may be visible). The glitch does not directly alter gameplay other than being abrasive and making it hard to run across.

The specific item that triggers this glitch is a candlestick identified as CandlestickFloor01DarkFake. The mesh file for the candlestick has an wrong path. Prior to the i.2.xxx patch, the game engine would await in the general Clutter path for whatever missing mesh files and observe it in that location; with the patch, the game no longer searches to find the missing file and instead displays its error symbol, namely a yellow diamond with a blackness exclamation point. This one type of candlestick is the only object in unmodified Oblivion that has this problem. Other than test areas only accessible with console commands, the but problem candlesticks that can exist found are: 4 in Eugal Belette's basement in Chorrol; two in Fort Hastrel; one in Fort Roebeck; and two in Fort Redman.

Bethesda Softworks silently patched this bug in Shivering Isles (which replaces the principal file Oblivion.esm) by deleting the entire CandlestickFloor01DarkFake object definition and all reference instances of it in the gameworld (which is strange, as they could have merely corrected the mesh file path).

On the Xbox 360 and PS3 there is no way to fix this glitch, other than by installing Shivering Isles.

  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Floating Body Glitch

An NPC who dies right as an Oblivion Gate is closing(subsequently taking the Sigil Stone and right earlier the loading screen appears) will, upon existence returned to Cyrodiil with the PC, stand upward direct as if the NPC is still alive and will float though the air, the trunk cannot be interacted with. The torso will also travel across Cyrodiil like this, moving backwards and floating ghost like through any object. Running into sloped terrain will cause the torso to rising however and eventually it will be far above your head and floating into the heaven until information technology cannot be seen anymore. Information technology is unknown equally to whether the body stays in game after this. Note that this glitch is quite difficult to reenact, as the timing has to exist nearly perfect.

Float in Midair Glitch

If you are arrested while swimming and choose to pay the fine, you volition be pond in mid-air when you're released, although near changes in terrain type or peak will render you to walking. While funny, this can also be a potential gainsay advantage.

This can also happen when jumping out of h2o onto a steep surface, such as the hills in Blackwood.

Floating Landscape

There are many rocks or plants that seem to float above the basis or mushrooms that float a little way from their tree. Several hundred of these are fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Floating Clumps of Arrows

If the player (and possibly NPCs) has been shot with arrows, they stick in the player's torso. If the role player goes through a load door into an unloaded cell (one that hasn't just been visited), the game engine doesn't know where to put the arrows, and so they are moved to co-ordinate 0,0,0. In some interior cells, this origin betoken is visible, and the clump of arrows tin can be seen there. They can't be picked upward but can be selected with the console, and volition fade away via the same game setting that they would fade from the player's or NPC'due south body.

Items Disappearing from Containers

Sometimes items announced to disappear from containers if you lot have already put a lot of items in. This is merely a display problems, even so: if you offset removing other items from the container the missing detail(s) will reappear. As well, if yous "Take All", the missing items will all the same be added to your inventory. Saving the game while in the same zone as the container then reloading the relieve volition often brand all the missing items reappear; leaving the room, or looking in other containers after reloading, will break the container again.

This glitch seems to be acquired past an fault in the recorded number of items stored in the container. It looks like that number sometimes becomes less than the bodily number of items stored. This causes the virtually recently added items to non exist listed in the container's inventory. Often, if you add another detail to the container, a previous missing ane will appear, merely instead the new item disappears.

Storing items that y'all will not be using at equal to or less than 100% health will reduce the likelihood of items disappearing. Armor repaired to 125% can speedily fill up a container.

Note that if you are using mods which heighten your maximum encumbrance, the aforementioned glitch may also happen to your inventory.

Paradise Surround Changing

During the main quest Paradise, it is possible to alter the usual sunset in Paradise into a fairly overcast looking sky and requite the whole area a misty bluish advent. Some of the fronds and trees besides change color, going from red, brown and yellow to blueish, dark green and purple hues. To practice this requires you to accept a salvage in Cloud Ruler Temple while the Portal to Paradise is open, loading up this save and then entering the portal volition enact this graphical glitch.

Rain Through Roofs

Rain will autumn through covered areas outdoors as if the cover was not in that location. This renders some of the beggars' AI that causes them to detect shelter in wet weather absolutely pointless.

See Clearly Underwater

Swimming with one's head just underwater results in a perfectly clear view of the terrain beneath the water level instead of just the usual murk.

Spasm Glitch

Various items in the game tin can become stretched and highly distorted, at which point they may brainstorm violently shaking and twisting. Some of these occurrences are random, but it is besides possible to intentionally trigger this behavior:

  • Ane way is to elevate a body into an open doorway, and so close the door. Single doors can cause moderate spasms; double doors are more likely to stretch the torso and produce more extreme behavior. The door must be 1 that swings open and airtight, and not a load door.
  • Another method is to assault an NPC every bit they are passing through a load door. Afterward the NPC activates the door, they will start to fade. At that moment, bandage a Paralyze spell (or assail with a Paralyze-enchanted weapon), then kill the paralyzed NPC. The corpse will melt on the ground and can be stretched smashing distances.

Unable to Sit

Completing Umaril the Unfeathered - the final Knights of the Nine quest - can trigger a bug in which it is no longer possible for your grapheme to sit. See here for details. This tin subsequently cause problems on quests that require the grapheme to sit, in particular A Door in Niben Bay and The Ultimate Heist.

  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion DLC Patches.

Lit Torches Glitch

If you leave a torch on the basis and go out that cell, when you return to the cell after a short fourth dimension you volition find that the torch is lit, but does not cast whatsoever light on nearby objects.

  • PC Only This bug is fixed past the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Sound Glitches

These are glitches with the game'south dialogue that bear upon multiple NPCs. Any glitches that only affect a unmarried NPC are documented on that NPC'southward article.

Allow me do that 1 once again

Later completing Misdirection, asking about rumors will cause some female person elven NPCs to say "await a minute allow me do that one again" betwixt 2 renditions of "I heard that thieves broke into the Arcane University, the Purple Legion Compound, and the Temple, all on the same nighttime!" Apparently the sound was not edited correctly. Affected NPCs include Thamriel and Palonirya, but specifically all female elves who are members of the Majestic City faction merely are not beggars or in the Thieves Guild. (Listen)

  • PC Only This issues is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

New Captain Dialogue

When you lot click on rumors for male person Bretons in Anvil later on Taking Care of Lex, they will say, "Lady Umbranox has hired a new captain of the baby-sit." wrong, stopping at "Cap-" and starting over once again. Affected NPCs include Norbert Lelles and Colin Stedrine. (Listen)

  • PC Only This bug is fixed past the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Spriggan Dialogue

Spriggans. "Nature's guardians" my foot! Hateful things. They'll curse you, or they might call a bear to tear yous apart.

When a male Redguard delivers this line, he stumbles slightly at "conduct" and so repeats the whole line. (Listen)

  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Ghost and Wraith Dialogue

I saw a wraith once. It threw a curse on me I'll never forget.
I ran beyond a ghost once. Seemed to suck the free energy right out of me.

When a female Breton or Majestic delivers either of these lines, the audio of one line will play merely the subtitles for the other line volition appear.

  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

You Rat!

If after A Rat Trouble you tell Arvena Thelas that it was Quill-Weave who lured the mountain lions into Arvena's basement, Quill-Weave will and then greet you by saying "What exercise y'all desire, you... you rat?" However, there is a dialogue glitch where instead of proverb the same dialogue she volition say "what do you desire, you... you lot... what do you want, you... you rat?" (Listen)

  • PC Only This problems is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Mute female NPCs of Daedric races

Encounters with female Dremora Markynaz archers reveal a small-scale oversight in the development of the game: Female Dremora NPCs have no voice any. They do non converse or otherwise collaborate with other NPCs, whatever attempt to appoint one in conversation will yield the "I HAVE NO GREETING" message, they do not taunt or shout in combat, nor will they even grunt or groan upon injury or decease. The bug itself is caused by a complete lack of assigned dialogue and sound files to the female gender of the Dremora race.

With the Shivering Isles expansion pack, this issues also affects the Summonable variation of the Golden Saint and Dark Seducer, which are both assigned to the in-game "Oblivion gate Daedra" faction. The reason for the latter two is unclear, as the Golden Saint and Dark Seducer races ordinarily have assigned dialogue and audio files recorded for both genders.

Inconsistencies

Modest issues that primarily consist of inconsistencies, i.e. facts that are incorrect or in disagreement with each other.

Simulated Information nearly Recharging Items

The book Arcana Restored can be found in various places, e.thou. Southern Books in Leyawiin. Information technology states that it is possible to recharge magical items at Mana Fountains if you have the volume and a gold asset in your inventory. However, this does non work in Oblivion. This volume is a carryover from Battlespire, but the associated scripts were not carried over into Oblivion.

  • PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Worthless Fortify Alchemy Enchantments

Several unique items merits to fortify Alchemy. Yet, this effect does non have any advantages since the potions that the actor makes while wearing these items have the same say-so as they would if you were non wearing them.

With the Wizard's Tower official plug-in, there is a structure called the Altar of Alchemy which provides a working +15 Fortify Alchemy effect. Even so, other Fortify Alchemy effects remain ineffective.

  • PC Only This bug is fixed past the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Accessing Places

Minor problems that primarily involve getting into or out of places that you unremarkably should or should not be able to become into.

Climbing Into Cities

From atop a Wilderness hilltop, cities can be seen to contain homes, shops, churches and castles. By climbing over the wall into the city these can exist discovered to exist depression-resolution props. The walls of homes and shops tin can be passed through, and buildings, doors, and gates are transparent from within. A good place to attempt this is to enter Cheydinhal from its northwest corner, where a colina rises near to the superlative of the walls. A loftier Acrobatics skill or a floating paint brush will enable y'all to hurdle the battlements and admission the interior of the metropolis.

Climbing Out of Cities

In the same way it is possible to enter cities without using the gate, it is possible to leave them. Information technology is even possible to do this without the pigment brush glitch, though most players will need a fairly high Acrobatics skill.

Anvil

  1. Jump onto the roof of the Abandoned Business firm.
  2. Jump onto the roof of Silgor Bradus' House.
  3. Follow the chain of roofs from Pinarus Inventius' House to Newheim the Portly's.
  4. Jump out of the city.

Bravil

  1. Spring onto the roof of S'Krivva's House.
  2. Jump across the street onto the roof of the other building.
  3. Jump onto the highest indicate yous can.
  4. Jump out of the city.

Bruma

  1. Climb onto the roof of Olav's Tap and Tack.
  2. From at that place bound along the roofs over the houses of Brotch Calus, J'Ghasta, and Helvius Cecias.
  3. Jump onto the battlements from the chimney of Helvius Cecias' House.
  4. Jump out of the urban center.

Cheydinhal

  1. Get onto the balcony exterior Riverview.
  2. Bound on the railing around the balustrade and then onto the roof.
  3. Bound out of the city.

Chorrol

  1. Jump on the depression stone wall on the north side of the Fighters Society.
  2. Bound onto the wooden target, then the overhang, then the primary roof.
  3. From the chimney, jump onto the roof of the Mages Order.
  4. Get every bit close as possible to the chapel and bound onto information technology.
  5. Head effectually to the north side of the chapel then jump onto the metropolis wall and out.

Leyawiin

  1. Get onto the short wall to the e of the Five Claws Lodge.
  2. Jump onto the low roof of the club and so get to the highest point.
  3. Bound onto the city wall and out.

The Imperial City

  1. Get to the minor swimming near The Main Ingredient.
  2. Face up northeast and leap onto the wall.
  3. Caput down the wall towards the gate to the Arena district, jumping over when you lot get there and standing to the northeast watchtower.
  4. Bound to the very height of the small roof and face northeast.
  5. Leap through the walls of the Majestic City.
Method 2

It is possible to bound out of the Cabalistic University area later obtaining recommendations from all the local guild halls and your acrobatics skill is loftier enough.

  1. Go through the iron bar gate to the right from the entrance.
  2. Jump onto the railing, then, if your acrobatics skill is loftier enough jump onto the roof of the Alchemical Garden.
  3. Get to the other side of the garden then jump on the roof of the Lustratorium.
  4. From there, bound over the wall and out the city.

Frostfire Glade

  1. When inside Frostfire Glade, run upwardly the side of the surrounding cliff.
  2. Either jump from rock to rock (this will take a while) or apply pigment brushes.
  3. Once yous reach the top at that place is a pocket-sized area of grass.
  4. Jump off the grass and you will be in an area of "zip".

Entering the Imperial Metropolis Invasion Prior to Light the Dragonfires

By using the Floating Paint Brushes glitch enough times, you can climb onto the rooftops effectually the Temple of the One (or onto the temple itself) in the Royal Metropolis, and jump onto the temple (you will fall through the roof). Exercise not get through the principal door when you are inside; instead, you will find a door that is partly underground a few steps alee of it. Go into that i. You volition find yourself in the invasion of the Regal City that occurs during Light the Dragonfires. If yous wait for a couple of days, Martin volition get in and the terminal cutscene volition begin. On the Xbox 360, this can be used to become the main quest achievement very early only it is not wise to salvage afterwards as it blocks the rest of the chief quest achievements for that character.

Non-Glitches

These are things that await like glitches but aren't.

Loot Numberless

A loot bag will appear in a cell when as well many items are dropped on the footing in lodge to forbid the game from crashing. It will appear directly nether the player at the fourth dimension it is created and all items in the cell at that time will be moved into the purse. Items may then be dropped normally again. If at that place is another "bag creating result" in a prison cell already containing a loot purse, items in that jail cell are moved into that bag. Boodle numberless tin can be "created" by using the Duplication Using Scrolls glitch.

  1. Indistinguishable a single lockpick with about 360 scrolls.
  2. First picking up every bit many lockpicks equally you tin can (the intent is to lag out your game).
  3. When you lot see a bulletin that says "Loading area...", attempt to enter and exit your inventory repeatedly.
  4. If you see all the lockpicks disappear, a loot pocketbook should be directly under you.
  • This can crash your game, which is to exist expected from irresponsible duplication.
  • This may exist used to steal everything in a room or access items that tin't normally be accessed ie. caged Varla Stones, items that have fallen into an completeness or through a floor, wanted posters, etc.
  • This has merely been tested on Xbox 360.
