The Ultimate Exp Farming Guide - How to Power Level in Let's Go

This method can only be done with co-op because we need have 2 controllers for the Synchronized throw catch bonus

I made a post yesterday where I got 90k Exp off of a single Chansey capture (https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonLetsGo/comments/p8dxux/thats_a_lot_of_exp/) and I wanted to go over the details to help some people out that want to power level their Pokemon. I believe this guide will help many people and I've had a lot of problems perfecting this method but and proud of where it is at now. I'm writing this guide from memory so there may be some mistakes so feel free to correct me or add any ideas to make this farming method better. This is the most efficient way that I have found to level up all of your Pokemon efficiently and as fast as possible with a low chance of failure. I use this method for getting all of my Pokemon ready for the Master Trainers. To level up all of the obtainable Pokemon in the game to get them ready for every single Master Trainer takes me about 300 Chanseys.

296 is my best but I think 200 is possible if done correctly with better luck (I still made a lot of mistakes but who honestly wants spend a ton of focus on catching 200+ Chanseys lol)

Obviously, you probably don't care too much about leveling up over 100 Pokemon but this method is still super helpful and will save you lots of money and stress and can be done while you're doing other things.

If you're just starting, it's very important to note that capturing a Chansey in Cerulean Cave is not easy at all. The Chanseys will continuously break out of your Ultra Balls killing your catch combo making this pointless. Also, you won't be able to guarantee the "First Throw" bonus (which is what we need for high Exp.) as frequently until you increase your total number of Chanseys caught. We want to increase your total Chanseys caught to 100 so that they become easier to catch before we start the actual Exp farming. You can see the total number of Chanseys you have caught throughout your playthrough by checking the Pokedex entry.

Top right corner of the Pokedex entry will give you this information

Does catching 100 Chanseys sound like a chore? Well it is, but I'll show you the easiest way to do this. Trust me, this is the way better than watching all of your hard earned Ultra Balls and catch combos go to waste and will guarantee you 30,000 - 90,000 Exp every Chansey catch afterwards.

Things you need before you get started!

Besides access to Cerulean Cave, you need these items for this method. It looks like a lot, but believe me, this method saves you a ton of money compared to the alternative (wasting Ultra Balls, berries, time, lures etc.)

  1. As many Nanab Berries as you can get! Just normal ones will be perfect for this. This will make it a lot easier to get the catch bonuses that we'll need for even higher Exp. We won't be using these until the farm is set up. These can be found by just walking up and down Route 17 (The Razz Berries you find will be very helpful as well)

  2. Golden and Silver Razz Berries! We only need about 10 minimum so 5 Golden, 5 Silver for example. This is for the first stage of the setup, after the first step, we won't be needing them anymore. Golden Razz Berries can be found in the Cerulean Cave where we find the Chanseys too (2F). Just keep walking around and picking stuff up off of the ground where the where the lights shine (they will keep respawning items)

  3. About 150-200 Ultra Balls! These are used to set up the farm

  4. A ton of Great Balls! These are used for the farm itself. Get as many as you need (Depends on now many Pokemon you plan to level up)

  5. Lots of Pokeballs! Again, this is all about how many Pokemon you plan to level up. Pokeballs will be for the second player hand. It's important to note that when using 2 controllers to catch a Pokemon, the second player only needs to use Pokeballs since they are cheaper. Using any other ball is a waste since it does not increase your catch rate at all. How many Pokeballs do you need? Ultra Balls + Great Balls = The amount of Pokeballs needed for this.

  6. As many Max Lures as you need! Depends on how long you go for. Keep these Max Lures on at all times. Just get about 50.. You should always have a ton of these anyways.

Let's Get Started! (Finally)

Step 1: Catch Combo 11 Chanseys in Cerulean Cave

This is the most frustrating part. If you've never caught Chanseys in Cerulean Cave before, you'll see how hard it can be to do this. We're going to use 2 controllers for this, main player hand uses Ultra Balls, second player hand has Pokeballs equipped. We're going to be using our Golden and Silver Razz Berries for this part. We don't need to worry about the Exp yet, just ensure we get this catch combo before Step 2. I'd recommend saving your Golden and Silver Razz Berries for when you get past the first 4 Chanseys caught. No sense wasting your good berries if the combo isn't past 5 yet. This is the only place in Kanto where Chansey is not a rare spawn so we can catch combo them here.

My main tip for this part: If the Chansey breaks out twice, run away. Remember that running away from a Pokemon does not break your combo. In my experience I've noticed that if they break out twice, they're going to be a pain, so move onto the next one ASAP.

Got an 11 Chansey catch combo? Excellent work! Hard part is over. Let's get out of here.

Step 2: Catch 89 Chanseys in Mt. Moon

Yup, that's right. We're leaving Cerulean Cave. Now that we have the combo going, Chanseys will spawn in many places all around Kanto at a very frequent rate. Mt. Moon is where we can find them at the lowest possible level making these the easiest Chanseys to farm in the game. We will get some Exp here, but not much. We're going to use the rest of our Ultra Balls doing this. This part is only to bring our Chansey total to 100 so that when we head back to Cerulean Cave, we have almost a 100% catch rate using Great Balls!

My main tip for this part: The Chanseys here will mostly stay in the Ultra Balls without any issues so I'd recommend running away from any Chansey that breaks out once. Trust me, I've had some frustrating moments. If a combo is broken, you need to go all the way back to Cerulean Cave to start another one and that is not worth it one bit. Chanseys will be spawning fast here so remember to play smart and don't gamble it. Just do this part while you're doing your homework or something. It doesn't take too long but it's kind of boring.

Step 3: Let's Farm Some Exp!

Okay, so we got our catch combo going and 100 Chanseys in total. Let's head back over to Cerulean Cave (2F) and start the farming. At this point you won't have any more Ultra Balls, but guess what? You don't need them anymore. Chanseys here will now have a near 100% catch rate (green circle) with Great Balls on the player 1's hand.

With your Max Lures and catch combo still active, you'll have a bunch of Chanseys showing up in here. But which ones are the good ones? Right off the bat I'll tell you this: Do not waste your time on regular sized Chanseys. If a Chansey does not have a size bonus (blue or red sparkly auras around them) don't waste your time on them. They will not pay out much Exp at all. Only catch ones that have the sparkly blue or red auras for the size bonuses.

This is where our Nanab Berries come in. Now that you know which Chanseys to look for, use your Nanab Berries to stop them in place. This is important because not only do we want the Synchronize throw bonus with the 2 controllers, but we also want First Throw and Excellent Throw bonuses . Nanab Berries will make this easier. Take your time on this part. The more efficient you are with your throws, the better and faster your Exp farm will go. You will be getting anywhere from 30-90k Exp per Chansey easily with no issues.

Keep going until you're done!

How will you know what Chansey will give 90,000 Exp?

You won't. The only thing that determines a 90k Chansey is whether or not it's a an Extra Large (XL) or Extra Small (XS) variant.. and you won't know this until you catch it and see the Exp you get. From my experience, they seem to pop up about 25% of the time.. maybe higher.

Now that you've caught plenty of Chanseys, you will no longer have any issue setting up a new catch combo in Cerulean Cave any time you want to.

Hope this guide helped some of you. This is the cheapest, most efficient, and fastest way to level every single Pokemon in the game if you're looking to power level them all for Master Trainers (that I've found so far). If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear it.

See ya trainers!
